Only the tourists who have made a reservation at the forest lodges located in the zone can enjoy the jeep safari in Dhikala. Once you get permission to stay overnight at one of the forest farms in the area, you need to hire a jeep with a driver and a nudist to enter the park and visit your reserved forest house. Once you enter the park, you are free to explore the jungle and its flora and fauna by jeep throughout the day within the allotted time.

Dhikala Elephant Safari

An elephant safari in the dense forest is the best way to explore the rich flora and fauna of the park and the most exciting safari experience as tourists can see the animals from a very close distance compared to jeep and catamaran safaris. The Dhikala zone also offers elephant safari, but it can only be enjoyed by tourists staying at the Dhikala forest lodge. The number of elephants used for safari is limited and service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so the phrase “the early bird can get the worm” applies here. You have to pay for the elephant safari on the spot at the elephant camp as it is not pre-booked. Elephant safari is not organized on Monday, so if you want to enjoy elephant safari, arrange your overnight stay in Dhikala accordingly.

Attractions in Dhikala Zone

Corbett Forestry staff conduct canter safaris in the Dikala Zone to provide an opportunity to explore the area’s rich wildlife. Canter Safari is the only option for wildlife lovers who stay outside the Dhikala tourist zone and want to visit the area as there is no day jeep safari for this zone. The Canter is a 16-seater open-top bus and can be booked online or from the Corbett National Park office in Ramnagar. The starting point of the Canter safari is the Ramnagar Corbett office, so tourists can board the Canter here for the safari if they have a pre-booked permit. During the day safari, the boat halts for some time at the Dhikala Forest Rest House, and the tourists can get off the boat, freshen up, walk around the complex and enjoy the beauty of the towering Ramganga River as well as the opportunity to see various wild animals in the river bed.

Forest Rest House

An overnight stay in the forest house in the Dikala area is like a dream adventure for all wildlife lovers. There are 4 forest lodges in this area namely: Dhikala FRH, Gairal FRH, Sarpduli FRH, and Sultan FRH. Among the four holiday houses, the most sought-after DHC “Dikala” is due to its strategic location and improved conditions. Dhikala Forest Lodge is the largest lodge having around 28 rooms with double beds and a 12-bed dormitory in different accommodation wings. Dhikala FRH is the only forest resort in Corbett NP that has 24-hour electricity in the rooms.

To visit the Bijrani area, you must obtain a safari entry permit, which you must show to the forest officials at the entrance gate. You can book a safari entry permit online up to 45 days in advance or book a same-day safari from the Ramnagar Forest Service after paying the required fee. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. Along with the entry permit, you also need to hire a safari jeep and guide/naturist which are mandatory to enter the tiger reserve area. A maximum of six adults and two children (under 12 years of age) can travel in one safari jeep, in addition to the driver and guide. It is always best to book your permit in advance before reaching the Corbett Tiger Reserve as there is always an influx of safari tourists and only 30 safari jeeps are allowed to enter the Bijrani area in one shift and almost all jeeps are pre-booked.

Forest Watchtower

The observation tower is the unique feature of the Dikala area, which offers you an amazing opportunity to observe the wildlife. The observation tower is strategically located overlooking the great Chaur and the entire Ramganga River, so from the tower you will have an excellent opportunity to watch the animals grazing in the grasslands or wandering along the banks of the Ramganga River. The observation tower is located near the Dhikala rest station and can be easily reached while staying at the rest station.

Gairal Crocodile Point

The Crocodile Point is located near the Gairal Rest Station and is a terraced place built over a pool that is permanently inhabited by a large number of crocodiles. You can watch the crocodiles and their activity by standing on the terrace and looking down at the pool. It’s an amazing feeling to watch such a dangerous aquatic creature up close.

Grass Lands (Chaurs)

The large grasslands known as Chaurs are the main place in Dhikala where wild animals can be seen, from tigers to elephants, various species of deer, wild boars, and many more. The Dhikala zone is very famous for its vast grasslands and tourists often report tiger sightings in the area.
