A jungle safari is the best possible way to explore the jungle by jeep. Jim Corbett National Park is India’s oldest national park and was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. Visitors can book jeep or trolley safaris online for five different areas of the park, namely Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhikala, Dhela and Durgadevi, “sitabani”, landscape. All Corbett safari booking procedures are handled by the Forest Officers as per the guidelines of the Forest Department of India. Please note that we cannot influence the safari area, safari driver and naturalist guide as we have no control over them. Although all areas have a healthy population of tigers and wildlife sightings are more or less the same. All these aspects are handled by the automated computer system to ensure equal distribution of safari vehicles in the respective areas.

Tourists can book a Jeep Safari or Canter Safari to five different zones of the park namely Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Sitavani, Dhela and Durgadevi. It should also be noted that you can only go on a canter safari (basically a bus) in the Dhikala area. As Dhikala is the popular area to see tigers, there are many tourists who want to go on safari in this area.

Jim Corbett National Park is divided into five prominent areas namely Dhikala, Jhirna, Dhela, Bijrani and Durgadevi. Among all the districts, Dikkala district is very popular among tourists. Jhirna zone is one of the popular zones among the six ecotourism zones in Corbett National Park. Corbett National Park is divided into six tourist zones, among which the Jhirna zone was added much later in 1994. In order to expand the tiger reserve zone, the agricultural lands of Jhirna village and two other villages were included in the reserve area and the villages were relocated to another place nearby . And then the land was redeveloped and transformed into an exotic lush forest. Since, unlike other zones which are closed during the monsoon season (except the Dhela zone), the Jhirna zone is open year-round for wildlife safaris, so there is a lot of traffic.

Elephant safaris have been banned in Corbett National Park for two years because of cruelty to elephants.

A few years ago, the Ministry of Forestry tried to start a walking safari, but due to the safety of the tourists, they closed it down. Of the two ways mentioned above (Jeep safari and canter safari), jeep is always recommended. To better understand the pros and cons of the jeep safari and the cantor safari, one should understand its main features.

• Jeep pick you up from resort and drop you off at resort while boarding canter one has to come at designated point Ramnagar or Dhangargi gate.
• There are two timing of jeep safari one morning from 06 am to 10 am and evening 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm these are very convenient time means in resort one can have breakfast after morning safari while after lunch one can have evening jeep safari to have.
• Only limited permits are allowed to book for specific zone for jeep and one can book limited seats in canter. One cannot book number of seats in jeep while in canter one can
• Jeep and canter safari booking starts 45 days in advance so permit availability is the most important aspect.
• From resort to resort safari duration will be around 4 hours while canter safari will be around 5 hours.
• A maximum of 6 adults and 02 children under the age of 11 are allowed in a jeep, while a canter can take 20 members.
• Each jeep consists of a guide and a driver, the guide sits in the jeep from the entrance gate of the safari zone, while there is one guide in the canter with 20 members.
• No private vehicle is allowed in Corbett National Park, so the jeep must be registered with the Ministry of Forestry and the guide must be registered with the Ministry of Forestry.

I have heard of numerous people leaving a vehicle on safari and being hurt or killed by the wild animals. Stay in the vehicles and stay safe.

Booking a Corbett jeep safari requires three separate bookings. First of all, you will need a safari permit which can be booked on the official website of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The official website is the only way to get a jeep safari or overnight permit in Corbett National Park. All bookings for all Corbett tourist areas can be made through the official website. Once you receive the permit, you will need to book a separate jeep and guide for your safari. You must book your jeep in advance while the driver can be booked at the time of entry. You should definitely go for a jeep safari as one of the main disadvantages of the cantera is that it makes too much noise and all the animals (especially the predators) go deep into the forest to avoid the sound. Also, the jeep is much more agile and faster on the narrow jungle roads.
