Jim Corbett National Park is one of the best places on earth to see tigers. In fact, it is the first reserve to be declared a tiger reserve.
The park is named after Jim Corbett, a legendary hunter turned conservationist. Over time, the park has undergone drastic changes in its area, the volume of tourists and its names. As for names, Jim Corbett was originally named Hailey National Park. Later he was named Ramanganga. However, Jim Corbett proved to be the most memorable name as the park saw a significant surge in popularity worldwide after its final designation. Today, Jim Corbett is the most famous park in South Asia.
The reason this area was selected as a tiger reserve is the good population of this animal here. There was a time when the entire Kumaon region lived in fear of man-eating tigers. Then hunters were brought in to kill them. But the killing of tigers increased and many innocent wild creatures paid the price. The local administration paid serious attention to this. And to prevent poaching and smuggling, the national park was created. Later, its area was increased for the benefit of animals and local residents. Gradually, local people were also made aware of the harm of poaching and why tigers are important to humanity. The change is quite evident as the number of tigers in the region increases and the incidence of poaching decreases. Today, tigers are safer here than anywhere else in the country.

To spot the elusive animals, this park is the best. Besides, the park is also endowed with other beauties like rich grasslands, wide range of birds and animals which make it the most wonderful biodiversity hotspot. Area: 1,218 sq km (area of tiger reserve: 512 sq km)
Route: Ramnagar town is the headquarters of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Night train travel is available from New Delhi to Ramnagar and from Varanasi to Ramnagar via Lucknow. Once you reach Ramnagar, you can hail a taxi to reach the park.
Ramnagar is connected by road to cities like Lucknow, Nainital, Raniket, Haridwar, Dehradun and New Delhi. You can also drive from Delhi (280 km) via Gairaula, Moradabad, Kashipur to reach Ramnagar.
