Flora of The Park:

Corbett is one of the most popular wildlife planets where you can enjoy scenic beauty. The park is spread over an area of 520.8 sq km and is known for its rich and diverse flora and fauna.

The fauna of the park includes the evergreen sal (Shorea robusta) and all associated trees, shisam (Dalbergia sissoo), kanju (Holoplete integrifolia). The other trees in the park which are widely found on the ridges are Ber (Zizyphus mauritians), dhak (Butea monosperma), and bael (Aegle marmelos). Other important trees are simal (Bombax cibea), jingan (Lannea coromandelica) and hair (Acacia catechu) which bloom in the spring season and start immediately before the summer season.

The most important tree species in North India are Sal and Sheesam which are grown in abundance in North India. The green leaves of the Rohini, which is a related tree to the Sal and is a favorite of the elephants in the park. Another floral feature of Corbett National Park is the ‘Charus’, commonly known as a flat grass cover of herbs and tall and short grasses, which serves as a grazing ground for herbivores. Another important plant in Corbett National Park, found along the nullahs and fallows, provides fodder for the wild animals in Corbett National Park. There are also many such forest trees like palas, amaltas, and kachnar which bloom in the spring season and also add to the beauty of the Corbett National Park.

Fauna in the park:

Corbett National Park is considered a well-protected and leading attraction in the country. The park was created by Jim Corbett in the Himalayan mountain range and is the most visited site in the country. Fauna in the park includes mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.

Mammals: Mammals in Corbett National Park include sloth, Himalayan black bear, jackal, yellow-throated martens, Himalayan palm civet, Indian gray mongoose, common otter, porcupine, hare, chital, spotted deer, para, kaka, and barking deer.

Birds: Peacock, teal, partridge, tern, crow, vulture, parrot, laughing thrush, eagle, woodpecker, pigeon, thrush, woodpecker, duck, stork, teal, gull, and cormorant are the most popular species in Corbett National Park.

Reptiles: Reptiles in the park include the Indian crocodile, gharial, king cobra, pit viper, python, and monitor lizard – the most popular reptiles in the park.

Fish: Mahaseer, Kalimuchi, Calabasu, Chilwa, and Gooch are the popular fish breeds found in Corbett National Park.
