Corbett or Jim Corbett National Park is named after Jim Corbett, a hunter turned conservationist. Before being so named, it was known as Hailey National Park. As a Bengal tiger roams its surroundings, it has become a protected area in India. This park is considered to be the oldest national park in India.

The climatic conditions in this park are moderate compared to other protected areas in India. In winter, the temperature varies from 5 to 30 degrees C. You will also face foggy mornings here. In summer, the temperature does not rise to more than 40 degrees C. As for rainfall, it varies from heavy in the monsoon season to light in the dry season.

Excursion and accommodation in Corbett National Park

Tiger Camp – This accommodation is located in Corbett National Park itself. On one side of the camp are the thick jungles and on the other side is the river Kosi. The camp offers 4 luxury rooms, 10 cottages and several tents. Guests are offered four air-conditioned Kumaoni style cottages with a living area of 12′ x 12′ as well as 6 large cottages with a living area of 14′ x 16′ and a double bed, clothes rack, coffee table, mattress flooring , air conditioning and chairs, etc. Each of these cottages has an attached hot shower and western-style toilet. Gol Ghar dining room is also available to guests, serving Chinese, Continental and Indian buffet dishes. In the event of a power outage, they have a back-up generator that provides full back-up power.

The staff can arrange with you a visit to a local performance and folk music. They have trained jeep drivers and naturalists who will guide you on bird watching walks, jungle visits and natural history activities. Activities you will enjoy here include mahasera fishing, wildlife viewing by jeep or elephant, bird watching on foot or by jeep, nature walks and fishing.

The price for a full day with a guide is 1200 rupees. If you rent a vehicle, the cost is 3000 rupees for the whole day. A fishing license costs 200 rupees per day for each rod.

Hideaway River Lodge – This lodge has been designed to offer a true wilderness experience around Corbett National Park. This property is located in the heart of the Corbett Forest Reserve along the Ramganga River.

The area is surrounded by lush subtropical forests, rich avifauna and flora. Its area is estimated at 3 acres and is protected by solar fencing structures. The Ramganga River is just a stone’s throw away. Some of the activities you can enjoy here include mahasera fishing, jeep and elephant safaris, as well as nature walks, village walks and bird watching.

There are 10 camps in this lodge. Each camp has Swiss thatched cottages with attached luxury bathrooms as well as toilet tents. There are also 5 superb tents with 5 bedrooms measuring 14′ x 12′, bathrooms measuring 6′ x 12′ and a private veranda measuring 4′ x 12′. Other amenities include running cold and hot water, attached bathrooms, and solar-powered lanterns. They also have a thatched rooftop restaurant that offers interactive cooking.
